THOU OH LORD

By: Elle Buell

Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! Many are they that rise up against me.
Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.
But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.
I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me.

Psalms 3:1-5 KJV

The lyrics of this old choir song are directly from the Word of God itself. David wrote this psalm as he was running for his life from his own son, Absalom. He had been betrayed, he had been abandoned, his kingdom had been basically stolen from him, and his own family member—his firstborn son—was chasing him down to kill him. Yet, somehow, David looks around and says...

BUT THOU, O LORD, ARE A SHIELD FOR ME.
MY GLORY AND THE LIFTER OF MY HEAD.

Whatever you might be facing today, big or small, I would challenge you to stop and speak those words over yourself—But Thou, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the lifter of my head. If you find yourself battling self-esteem issues, self-image issues, feelings of inferiority, failure, or loneliness—But Thou, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the lifter of my head. If you’re battling a broken relationship, a damaged marriage, uncertainty about your future, an unsaved child that’s running from the Lord, sickness of the body, sickness of the mind, emotional torment, anxiety, worry, fear—But Thou, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the lifter of my head.

Speak these words over yourself and let them serve as a reminder to both you AND the enemy that you are covered by God Almighty. Let our loving Father be your shield and the lifter of your head today!
