TROUBLESHOOTING

By: Pastor Matt Morgan

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to You.

James 1:5 NIV

“You can only rescue so many drowning people from the river before you have to go upstream to see who’s pushing them in.” Archbishop Desmond Tutu wrote this in 1948 at the beginning of apartheid. The quote expresses the need for troubleshooting, finding the root cause. Problems must be identified not overlooked. It is exhausting to continually deal with the effect and not attack the cause!

Our nation is divided along ideological lines, racial lines, political lines, and religious lines. We have a propensity to side up—us against them! Although standing up is necessary at times, siding up doesn’t
usually mitigate problems, it creates them. A house divided cannot stand. We need each other. We are better together than apart.

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. (James 3:17 NIV)

We need cross-pollination. We need shared resources. We need other points of view. We are comrades at arms, not competitors at war.

Ask God to give you wisdom from above today. Ask him to broaden your outlook and to help you become less judging and more loving. This is how we save the world!
