GREEK WEEK: HEALING

By: Pastor Matt Morgan with Pastor Keith Stagge

Iaomai (pronounced ee-ah'-om-ahee): “to heal, make whole”

Therapeuo (pronounced ther-ap-yoo'-o): “to cure, relieve (of disease), restore to health”

Sozo (pronounced sode'-zo): “save, heal, preserve, rescue”

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” (3 John 2 KJV)

There are three Greek words for healing in the New Testament:

1. Iaomai is used 32 times. This word is used for instantaneous, miraculous healing.

2. Therapeuo is used 48 times in the New Testament. This means to heal through various ways. Most often the gifts of healing fall under this category.

3. Sozo is the most common and is used 120 times. Sozo is most often translated “salvation.” It means to heal through and through, body, soul, and spirit. Sozo seldom specifically speaks of physical healing alone—when you received salvation you also received healing! It is healing of the entire man!

You may receive a diagnosis from a physician—this is not the last word over your condition! God is not against medicine or doctors. What God is against, is your faith terminated by medical analysis. When this interpretation becomes the label you hide behind, life can become suspended and futile. God is not a second opinion; He is the last opinion. Qualified professionals do their best, but their opinion should never be the basis of a life sentence. God is the Author and Finisher of life.

Jesus atoned for our healing at the cross, and healing is the children’s bread. “Bread” represents what we eat, what sustains us, what our growth comes from, what is necessary for our survival. Healing is free, but it’s not cheap! Healing is yours! Paid for at Calvary. No terms or conditions—just receive this free gift today.
