GREEK WEEK: TETELESTAI

By: Pastor Matt Morgan with Pastor Keith Stagge

Tetelestai (pronounced teh-tell'-ih-sty):  "It is finished;" “to have been completely accomplished, to have been paid in full”

These are the last words of Jesus on the cross. These words are not spoken in defeat but in victory!

The vicarious death of Jesus on the cross is the catalyst by which we have eternal life.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16 KJV)

Tetelestai was the Roman battle cry. This cry was only shouted out after a victory! Can you imagine all of the onlookers at the cross hearing Jesus shout these last words? Tetelestai!! No wonder the Roman centurion at the foot of the cross declared, “Surely this was the Son of God.”

Through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, it is finished—we have won the victory!
