GREEK WEEK: INSPIRATION
By: Pastor Matt Morgan with Pastor Keith Stagge
Theopneustos (pronounced theh-op'-nyoo-stos): “God-breathed, inspired by God”
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” (2 Timothy 3:16 KJV)
“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.” (Isaiah 40:8 KJV)
“Your word, LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.” (Psalm 119:89 NIV)
This was one of the last things Pastor Keith and I talked about. As he was close to his heavenly reward, we had conversation about the word “inspire.”
The word “inspiration” (theopneustos) means God-breathed. This is the infusion of ideas into the mind by the Holy Spirit. Inspire means to breathe in. Expire means to breathe out or die. Ironically, as Pastor Keith was getting closer to home, posturing to expire, he could still be a witness to the inspired word of God.
