WORSHIP IS WARFARE

By: Micaiah Wesler

And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying, “Praise the Lord, for His mercy endures forever.” Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.

2 Chronicles 20:21-22 NKJV

King Jehoshaphat was in a tight spot. Armies from Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir came up against him to wage war and overtake the people of God. They were afraid for their lives and knew that they were outnumbered. They were left with a choice: They could develop plans concocted from their own human minds or they could seek the Lord. They chose to seek the Lord, and the Lord responded that He would fight the battle for them.

The next day King Jehoshaphat goes out with his army and puts worshippers on the front lines. They worship God by saying, “Praise the Lord, for His mercy endures forever.” As they praise, God sends ambushes against Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir and completely destroys them.

This reminds me of the lyrics in “Defender” by Rita Springer:

ALL I DID WAS PRAISE.
ALL I DID WAS WORSHIP.
ALL I DID WAS BOW DOWN.
ALL I DID WAS STAY STILL.
HALLELUJAH, YOU HAVE SAVED ME!
SO MUCH BETTER YOUR WAY.
HALLELUJAH, GREAT DEFENDER!
SO MUCH BETTER YOUR WAY. *

This is a picture of how God wants it to be in our lives as well. When we come up against adversity, we have the choice of concocting human plans to fight against it in our own strength, or we can seek the Lord, hear His word, and let our praise and worship go before us. You’ll find that when you let situations go and begin to worship God, things miraculously begin to fall in line while you were worshipping.
