Then Peter came and said to Him, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.”
Matthew 18:21-22 NASB
Four hundred and ninety times. This is how many times Jesus Himself says we must forgive a single person. Forgiveness can sometimes not be an easy task, especially when the hurt is so deep. In my experience, the bitterness that comes from not forgiving is just as life draining as the hurt that started everything. The healing after forgiveness can come in stages, and that’s ok as long as youre moving forward and not dwelling on the past hurt.
Forgiveness can also come in the form of forgiving yourself. It’s the same process of not consistently reminding yourself of your failures. You are most likely your biggest critic. But hey, guess what, it’s ok to give yourself a break!!
Father, help me to forgive like You forgive. Help me to see others and myself through Your eyes. I want to love like You love. Thank You for Your forgiveness towards me. I love you, Father. Amen.
