UNITY: NOT JUST A MARRIAGE DEVOTION

By: Pastor Brian & Whitney Huff

And the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one flesh. (Mark 10:8 NIV)

And though one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:12 AMP)

In the understanding of these scriptures, Whitney and I have decided to co-write this devotion.

Take 2 drops of water and put them in a glass; they immediately become one solid drop of water. They absorb each other because they are made from the exact same source and substance. This is what marriage should look like.

Now, add just one drop of oil to that glass and separation happens immediately. With every obstacle, bill, sickness, bitterness, or disagreement, separation becomes all too easy in a marriage. In our experience, the longer we allow these things to separate us, the harder it is to come back into the unity of oneness.

The same principal applies to our relationship with God as it does with marriage. The longer we allow things to separate us from God, the harder it is to come back into unity with Him. Now we understand our marriage is made of three very distinct cords: Whitney, Brian, and God Himself. Separation of any of these three will leave our marriage vulnerable and weak.

So we leave you with these two little things that have helped us through some tough times:
Number one, pray together. Number 2, from day 1 to year 100, laugh with each other. A merry heart works like medicine (Proverbs 17:22).
