BOND SERVANT
By: Pam Gray
I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds: which in times past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me. (Philemon 1:10 KJV)
For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him forever; 16 Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved…. (Philemon 1:15-16 KJV)
This is such a short book of the Bible that I wanted to type it all for you. It is a book of hope to me.
Paul, while in prison, sends a former bond servant to Philemon and the church in his home. He tells them in time past, he knows Onesimus was useless to them, but now, redeemed, he would be useful to them. He says, “Perhaps this was why he was sent away from you for a while, that you might have him back forever.”
Do you have someone you love that seems to have left? Have hope for your lost loved ones. Do not give up on them. Maybe God has them in a place to find their “Paul,” who can speak into their life. Maybe they are away for a season so they can be redeemed and return to you as a child of God: no longer lost and ashamed, but fully redeemed.
