A LITTLE SALTINESS
By: Jennifer Nystrom
You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
Matthew 5:13 NIV
I love to bake bread. The whole process is satisfying to me. The feel of the dough and the smell of the yeast. One day, I was trying out a new bread recipe. It was to be a simple white bread, nothing fancy. Easy, right? I mixed the ingredients, kneaded the dough and let it rise. Everything was looking and smelling normal.
I took my risen dough and shaped it into the loaf. I baked it for the allotted time and took the loaf out of the oven. It looked perfect and smelled heavenly. Once it cooled enough, I sliced it and spread some butter on a piece and bit into my creation. What a HUGE disappointment! I had somehow forgotten to add the salt to the dough! It amazed me how the omission of just one tiny teaspoon of salt could ruin a perfectly formed loaf of bread!
Likewise, WE are the salt of the earth. It doesn’t take much to make a difference in someone’s life. Showing just a little kindness and love could make all the difference in the world to someone.
Plan of action: Go out of your way to show someone, preferably a stranger, an act of unexpected kindness.
