RUNNING ON EMPTY
By: Moriah Logsdon
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
Galatians 6:9 KJV
We’ve all heard the phrase, “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” What do we do when our emotions are in the way of our serving? Maybe you would love to serve or continue to serve, but you’re simply tired or can’t find the time! How can you prioritize your time in alignment with being involved in church?
If you are already serving and feeling “tired” or lacking vision, make time to rest in the Lord! It is better to take time than to completely stop volunteering simply because you never took time to rest! Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. Give your individual ministry your best!
My number one ministry is my family. If I have volunteered my time to others but didn’t pay attention to my daughter, or help her with her homework and run my necessary errands to provide for my family, then I have failed. My family is my first ministry!
If you are growing weary, take time today to prioritize what is physically and mentally sound. Matthew 11:28 says, “Come to me all who are weary, and I will give you rest.” When you pour out your worship to God and lay down your burdens, He will fill you up until you overflow. Your overflow could be poured into others who are empty! Are you giving your time to things that are wearing you down rather than things are filling you up?
Challenge: Make a list of your priorities this week. How can you give your best to everything that needs your attention?
Example:
1. Relationship with God
2. Make time for Spouse
3. Make time for children
4. Career/Ministry
5. Volunteering
