OBEDIENCE

By: Pastor Bobbi Morgan

Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.

I Sam. 15:22 NIV

I opened the mail today and received what I knew to be an act of obedience from the sender. I found myself in tears and humbled by the goodness of God and the selfless act of obedience by one of God’s children. God never ever ceases to amaze me. His timing is impeccable.

In 1 Samuel 15, God gave Saul specific instruction on how to handle the Amalekites. Saul did not follow all of God’s instructions. Saul decided that he would do what he thought was best and gave the excuse that he feared men. The problem is not the offerings/your act of kindness, but the disobedience of God’s commands and the desire for approval of people rather than the approval of God. Have you ever found yourself following the voice of God and then veering from His plan because you feel people may not understand or not “like” the outcome? It is so easy to become a “people pleaser” and rather than a “God follower” and still be doing “good works”.

The best way to truly reach/help people is by our act of obedience to God, not our sacrifice to men. I was reminded of this today when someone's act of obedience put me on my knees with gratitude and in awe of God.

Lord, I pray today that we will be led by Your spirit and not pushed by our flesh.  Help us to not be overcome by pride or fear and fail in our full obedience to You. We want to hear You clearly and to follow Your instructions fully. AMEN!
