FASTING WITH PURPOSE
By: Pastor Matt Morgan
For the Lord God is a sun and a shield, for the Lord will give grace and glory and there is no good thing that he would withhold from them that walk uprightly.
Psalm 84:11 KJV
Fasting is not a hunger strike. Fasting is not earning Gods favor. Jesus did it often, and He’s the Son of God. Fasting does not manipulate God; it is not a guarantee that God will act on your behalf. A theology of works says, “If you do this, Then I’ll do that.” Fasting is not to become a self-centered experience.
Fasting honors God; in fact it was God’s idea. It prioritizes our relationship with God and His goodness.
Am I impressing God with my will power or am I seeking His will over mine? We should get crossing a finish line out of our mind, and strengthening our relationship with God as our focus.
Does fasting change God? No, fasting changes us. The goal is not to suffer to impress God but to press in to His presence. Your hunger will serve as a reminder that God is your provider.
Honor God this week through your fast. Let your fast be a worship experience that exalts your Heavenly Father. Fasting promotes humility and advances spiritual sensitivity, and that is what we need for abundant life today.
