JESUS WEPT

By: Elle Buell

When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. “Where have you laid him?” he asked. “Come and see, Lord,” they replied. Jesus wept.

John 11: 33-35 NIV

We are so indoctrinated with Christ’s supernatural nature, that we often forget he was fully human as well. That means he experienced all the human emotions that we experience: anger, sadness, disappointment, happiness, frustration, depression, excitement, devastation. In this situation, Christ experienced all the human emotions associated with losing a loved one. The Bible says that when He heard the news of His friend’s death, He was deeply moved and cried.

Whatever you are going through or facing, remember that Christ truly understands your feelings not just because He is God and knows all, but also because He experienced those same feelings firsthand. God created us as emotional beings, and He intended us to experience those emotions. Keep in mind that all our emotions are meant to point us back to Him, to cause us to lean into Him, and to draw us to repentance or worship. Whatever emotions this day holds for you, consider how your feelings can lead you closer to Our Father.
