POT KETTLE EQUALITY
By: Pastor Matt Morgan
Hypocrite! First remove the plank [log] from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
Matthew 7:5 NKJV
We have a proclivity to quickly accuse others while quickly excusing ourselves. We are guilty of “log eye.” We have forensic vision when it comes to others’ failures. We are the pot that calls the kettle black. This antidotal proverb comes from the old cast iron cookware, which would turn black on the underside. One calls the other black because it can’t see its own black bottom.
It’s easy to judge when our view is from the top. When we can’t see our own flaws, we become extremely intolerant of others’ low areas. The church is the body of Christ purchased by the blood of Jesus, but we are still imperfect—come to terms with imperfect.
Make every effort to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:3 NIV).
Not just some effort or an occasional effort, but EVERY effort. I can no longer compare my highlight reel to their bloopers, or my top to their bottom.
