HUNG BY THE TONGUE

By: Pastor Matt Morgan

Too much talk leads to sin, be sensible and keep your mouth shut. (Proverbs 10:19 NLT)

When words are many, sin is unavoidable, but he who restrains his lips is wise. (Proverbs 10:19 BSB)

When words are many, sin is unavoidable? Ouch! James 1:19 says to be “quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger.” I am often guilty of being slow to listen and quick to speak. James also says if we could “control our tongues”, we would be able to control our whole body. Is your tongue out of control? Your tongue writes the script for your life. Like a rudder on a ship, your tongue steers your life! “The power of life and death is in the tongue...” (Proverbs 18:21).

You will exist within the words you release, so be wise with your words. There is a reward for silence. Wisdom is ascribed to those who guard their speech. You will not pay for what you do not say.

“See how nature, trees, flowers, grass, grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence… We need silence to be able to touch souls.” (Mother Theresa)
