RETREAT
By: Pastor Bobbi Morgan
Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.
Matthew 14: 22-23a NIV
Often we find in the Bible that Jesus withdrew himself from the crowds for peace and time alone. Jesus ministered to people, but He slipped away regularly for times of prayer. I am certain that if this is the way Jesus lived, then we most definitely need to follow His example.
Perhaps you’re finding yourself short with people, feeling overwhelmed, depleted, anxious, and the list goes on. RETREAT! If you have ever flown, you have seen the flight attendant show how to put on the oxygen mask. You must first put the oxygen mask on yourself before helping the child or person next to you.
We are to be a light and witness to the world, but if our light starts to flicker, we must take some time away to get our battery recharged. We are not the Energizer Bunny™ that keeps on going and going and going…. We have to stay plugged in to our source. The devil will fight you on the decision to retreat and recharge, so be determined and find time to get away even if it’s time in your closet alone. Seek God and recharge!
