STRESS FRACTURE
By: Pastor Brian Huff
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
James 1:5-8 NKJV
I’m going to begin today by telling you that I broke my foot bowling. I was walking up to the alley, with the bowling ball in hand, when I felt a sharp pain go through the side of my foot. I fell hard! While everyone else was laughing, I was trying to get back to my seat by jumping on one foot. The next morning, my mom took me to the emergency room to get an x-ray. The doctor came back with the news that I had fractured my foot. He told me that this type of fracture was called a stress fracture. He said that a stress fracture was like taking a paper clip and bending it back and forth until it eventually breaks.
Today, I wonder how much stress we put on our souls by being a person who bends back and forth. One day we are solid in our faith, and other days we struggle. Some days we are joyful, and other days we choose bitterness. Eventually, the back and forth will cause a fracture that only God’s grace can heal. Joshua, a great judge and deliverer in the Bible said, “Choose you this day whom you will serve...” (Joshua 24:15).
God, I pray that You help us to be anchored in Your promises. Help our faith to be strengthened every day. We believe You are the Author and the Finisher of our faith. All things filter through Your hands, and there is nothing that You cannot see.
