SECOND CHANCES

By: Jill Collins

Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you.”

Jonah 3:1-2 NKJV

We all know the story: Jonah was told to go, Jonah said no, then Jonah spent a few days in the belly of a big fish. All he had to do was obey what God had told him to do. The Bible says that God asked Jonah to “preach the message I TELL YOU.” It was laid out for him! There was no prep work involved or hours of praying to ask what to preach; God already had it prepared. Even though God had it all planned out for him, Jonah still went in the opposite direction.

Many storms we face in this life are the result of our own stubborn attitudes. We might try to place blame on others, but in retrospect, we see it just might be the result of our disobedience to God. When Jonah was in the darkness, he cried out and God heard him. Jonah 3:1 says that the Lord “spoke a second time.” We often think if we don’t obey, then we blew it. Thankfully, we serve a God of second chances. Ask Him for your second chance and then be faithful to follow through.
