WELLNESS
By: Pastor Matt Morgan
When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”
John 5:6 NIV
For 38 years, the paralytic had been lain at this porch. He had been waiting for a miracle, with no success. He was never mentioned by name, only by his condition. Have you ever noticed, people like to label people by their problem? Jesus interrogates the problem. He asked for a timeframe, and then for a motive. Every difficult situation in your life needs to be interrogated. To get handles on a problem, it is important to ask some questions.
Jesus offers wellness and peace as a prerogative, if you want it. So, do you want it? If you do the same thing every day for 38 years, breaking that routine could create anxiety—new places, new faces, new opportunities, or maybe fear of new disappointments. Those who are comfortable with disappointment desperately need deliverance.
Jesus asked, “Do you want to remain the same?” We should answer with a resounding “no!” Our response should always be no to our problem and yes to our provider!
