I AM WILLING

By: Micaiah Wesler

While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.

Luke 5:12-13 NIV

What a dramatic scene from the Bible! Jesus was just hanging out in a town and a man with leprosy came close, fell down in front of Jesus, and begged Jesus to heal him. He wasn’t sure if Jesus would even be willing to heal him. The man was risking his own life to get to Jesus. A person with leprosy wasn’t allowed to be near other people or they would be killed for potentially spreading the disease.

Jesus doesn’t think twice. He healed the man but, more importantly, he answered the questioning heart behind the man’s question. The man believed that Jesus COULD heal him but he wasn’t sure if Jesus WOULD. Jesus gives a definitive answer to the man’s doubts by saying, “I am willing.”

We all have moments where we know that God CAN do something but we aren’t sure if He is WILLING to actually do it. This moment in history solidifies God’s response to the questioning once and for all. If you need healing, deliverance, salvation, hope, peace, joy … His answer is, “I AM WILLING.”
