THE CHEESE TOUCH
By: Micaiah Wesler
While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.
Luke 5:12-13 NIV
In the book Diary of a Wimpy Kid they had a thing called “cheese touch.” If you accidentally touched the old cheese, then you had the “cheese touch.” You were forever ruined. The whole school would avoid you like the plague for the rest of your school career.
Now that the framework is set, get in my time machine. We are getting out of the 21st century and going back to the time and culture where Jesus healed a man who was plagued by the old school version of the cheese touch. In their culture, there were certain rules and laws that had to be obeyed with the cheese touch … er … well, uh … actually, leprosy. Lepers were complete outcasts in society. They were not allowed to touch people, and people were not allowed to touch them.
Then, here comes Jesus on the scene. Jesus stops at a man who is unclean and thrown away by society. If Jesus touched this man, Jesus would become unclean. Knowing the laws, Jesus reached His hand out and touched the man. BAM! SOMETHING HAPPENED! Everyone jumped away from Jesus expecting Him to have the cheese touch now, but instead of the man turning Jesus unclean, Jesus actually defeated the cheese touch and made the man completely clean and healed. Jesus carries this same exact power to this day. If you know someone who feels unclean, isolated, hopeless, and thrown to the side, you can still have hope. With one touch from Jesus, they are made completely whole again.
