GIFT

But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!

Imagine today I gave you a book as a gift. You did not write it. You were not responsible for its contents. You did not print it. You did not put it together. You did not design the cover. You did not edit it. In fact, you had nothing at all to do with the production of that book from start to finish. Yet the moment you receive it, you possess that book; it belongs to you and if anyone asks who that book belongs to, you can state “it is mine.”
It is the same with the victory of Christ. The overcoming life was totally the work of Jesus on the cross and yet the moment you receive the free gift of salvation you possess that victorious, overcoming life and can triumphantly declare that that life is yours as much as it is Christ’s.
