TO SPEAK OR NOT TO SPEAK
By: Moriah Logsdon
The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.
Proverbs 15:4 NIV
Have you ever been in a conversation and spoken way too freely to the wrong person? It might have been out of defense or hurt, but before you were even finished with the sentence you felt that overwhelming sense of regret?
We can’t rewind and go back now . . . how can you make right of this wrong situation? Do you know if you don’t embarrass your sin it will come back and embarrass you? It is better to admit your wrong doing and expose your failure than to hide it. Go back in conversation and expose that it was your flesh talking.
Don’t give room for gossip to be a part of your everyday life. The New York Daily published an article saying, “Gossip makes up 80 percent of our conversations.” I hate to think this is true! We have all been stung by “that one” rumor. We have all been a victim to being the topic of someone else’s conversation. Let’s end the stigma here. When you find yourself on the biting side of gossip, it’s not too late to stop in your tracks, apologize, and change the subject! We all fail and come short of being perfect. Recognize it’s better to say nothing than too much!
Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent. (Proverbs 17:28 ESV)
