CHOOSE JOY!

By: Chandler Demler

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 NIV

There are so many things that have the potential to rob us of our joy. Take a minute to think about all the things you cannot control and have no say over. It’s a little bit harder to find joy when everything around you seems to be hopeless. Just the other day I was stressing myself out over things that I don’t have control over. I could literally feel myself being robbed of my joy. It’s in these moments we must remember our happiness is based on circumstances; joy is based on Christ.

2 Corinthians says we are literally outwardly "wasting away", but because we are focused on things that are eternal rather than what we see, we have an eternal glory to look forward to.
Everyone experiences happy feelings as well as unhappy feelings. There are things that happen to us that make us feel good and content for a short time, but happiness is based on circumstances and things that are good. It is true joy that we must choose to walk in. Joy is a choice! Begin to focus on the big picture rather than insignificant events that don’t mean anything to eternity and remember to choose joy!
