CONNECTIVITY

By: Pastor Brian Huff

Even though I am free of the demands and expectations of everyone, I have voluntarily become a servant to any and all in order to reach a wide range of people: religious, nonreligious, meticulous moralists, loose-living immoralists, the defeated, the demoralized—whoever. I didn’t take on their way of life. I kept my bearings in Christ—but I entered their world and tried to experience things from their point of view. I’ve become just about every sort of servant there is in my attempts to lead those I meet into a God-saved life. I did all this because of the Message. I didn’t just want to talk about it; I wanted to be in on it!

1 Corinthians 9:19-23 MSG

I have been in construction work since I was a teenager. With that said, my knowledge of electricity is probably the one trade I struggle with the most. Being around it has forced me to learn a few things:

1. You can still have an electrical current without using the ground wire, but not having a ground wire is a dangerous and illegal way to run electric.

2. I know that although electricity can come into an electric box, if the wires are not connected properly, electricity will not run out of the box to other areas.

With those two things in mind, let’s evaluate our lives. First, how rooted and grounded are we in our relationship with God’s Word? Although we can use the Word of God, that doesn’t mean we use it safely and correctly. Even though we have the power of God’s Word, we must understand how to direct it with love and focus.

On an electrical job, I know when current hasn't passed from where it originated to where I want it to go. When this happens, the first thing I check is for a loose wire somewhere. In life, I want God’s love to pass through me like electricity to all the people God has given me the opportunity to meet. I want to be able to share the love of God everywhere I go. However, most people need connection first. I don’t want to just pass through life telling people about God; I want people to connect with Him. In light of that, I pray that as a church God gives us the ability to connect with as many people as we can.

God, help us make connections with the people in and around our lives so we can truly connect them with Your love. Amen.
