INSECURITIES

By: Pastor Matt Morgan

Cast not away therefore your confidence which hath great recompense of reward (Hebrews 10:35 KJV)

. . . Place no confidence in the flesh [human effort]… (Philippians 3:3 KJV)

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:9 KJV)

Insecurities are debilitating. They leave us paralyzed and unproductive. The apostle Paul warned Timothy of the crippling effect of insecurity. Paul called it timidity, a spirit of fear.

Hebrews 10:35 tells us not to throw away our confidence. Insecurities are derived from self-preservation. In the animal kingdom, the alpha male will seek out and destroy the male offspring with incessant violence. How could he do this to his very own posterity? Insecurity.

Insecurity sees a threat where there is no harm. Paranoia ensues. Have we eliminated things in our life that could be beneficial? How many opportunities have we killed because of insecurity?

I don't think we will ever feel secure, in and of ourselves, but we can learn to manage our insecurities by putting our confidence in our Lord. Uncertainty will always play a strong role in our life, but we face this challenge by placing complete trust in God. Insecurity is "wrong" security exposed. If we trust in ourselves, we are destined to fail, but if we trust in God, we are destined to win.
