SWEET WATER

By: Pastor Matt Morgan

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. (Proverbs 16:9 ESV)

And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left. (Isaiah 30:21 ESV)

I cannot count the times I have traveled Interstate 75 through Tennessee. Once while traveling this stretch of road, I noticed something I had never seen before. Two particular exits, one behind the other, caught my attention. One exit is called “Sweetwater,” and the next exit is “Lost Sea!”

I immediately began to reflect on choices I had made, decisions that had led to lost seas, or to sweet waters. Destiny is determined by decisions. Many times in life we don’t have control of what comes our way, but we do have control of how we handle it! Our response to our difficulty is the exit ramp that carries us to our destination. Outcomes are the result of options.

Wherever you are in life, you can still find good directions. These directions are part of an intricate plan that God has ordained for you. Rerouting is always an option. God is pulling for you and He has your best interest in mind. I can remember in high school reading the famous poem by Robert Frost, The Road Not Taken. It’s one of those poems that makes you stop and think. The last line of the poem reveals the meaning so clearly:  “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”

Ask God to establish your steps today. Ask for wisdom to navigate life and live in his abundance. Ask that steps be clearly ordered and missteps be quickly corrected.
