STEP OUT OF STUCK
By: Pastor Matt Morgan
And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
John 5: 5-6 KJV
John 5 tells us that in Jerusalem there was a pool where multitudes of sick people would lie. There they would wait for an angel to touch the waters. Supposedly, the first one to get in the water would be healed. As Jesus walked by the pool, He asked a paralyzed man, “How long have you been here?”
Today, I’m asking you: How long have you been where you are?
Jesus is initially addressing the power of permanence. Satan attempts to keep us stuck. Jesus recognizes and identifies the scheme. The pool of Bethesda has five porches designed for comfort and shade. Satan attempts to make deliverance inconvenient. He wants you to just become comfortable with where you are no matter the limitation. Bethesda is a people trap. The longer you stay in your problem, the more you screen out people that could potentially help you escape.
The paralytic has experienced decades of disappointment. He is supported by a group of equally disabled sympathizers. The miracle, the healing, the deliverance was not in Bethesda but in leaving Bethesda! Bethesda promises freedom but delivers bondage.
Today, decide to step out of “stuck.” Leave those places built to excuse the pain. Follow Christ out of your struggle and into His arms.
