COMPARISON

By: Pastor Brian Huff

But each one must carefully scrutinize his own work [examining his actions, attitudes, and behavior], and then he can have the personal satisfaction and inner joy of doing something commendable without comparing himself to another.

Galatians 6:4 AMP

Let’s be honest-- we've all been guilty of comparing ourselves to others. I believe comparing has three dangerous traps:

1. It makes you feel “less than” when you see others more successful than you.
2. It makes you feel “ok” when others are equal to you.
3. It makes you feel “better” when others are less successful than you.

In all three comparison scenarios, you lose. Instead of striving to be exactly who God wants you to be, you strive for what others want you to be. Instead of caring about how your Creator made you, we long to reinvent a more successful version of ourselves that others can respect. If you’re going to compare yourself to anyone, compare yourself to Christ. Compare yourself to His Word, and the “original you” that God intentionally made!
