BLAZING THE TRAIL
By: Jennifer Nystrom
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV
Have you ever heard God whisper to you, asking you to do something life-changing that you would never, ever consider doing on your own?
We have. We were living in a small town about 40 miles north of Seattle in a house that my husband and I had just bought a few years prior. This was going to be our “final resting place” as I jokingly called it. It was to be the house we were going to retire in.
I had grown up in the area, and my family, along with countless lifelong friends, lived there as well. We were very active in our church, my husband as an elder and I had been on staff as Children’s Director. We knew everyone and everyone knew us. We had helped plant the church several years earlier when our children were younger and had seen it grow and become a vital part of the community. Life was good. We were oh so comfortable. Maybe too comfortable.
Then we heard it. God calling us to move clear across the country to a place neither of us had ever been to. Crazy? Maybe, but when God asks you to do something, how can you say no?
Very long story short, we made the move, always with the words of Deuteronomy 31:8 echoing in my ears. God was blazing the way for us.
There have been bumps and hurdles to overcome since moving out here, but God has never abandoned us, just as He promised. He sees the whole picture and it is our duty to simply follow where He is leading, wherever that may be.
Plan of Action: Be listening for God’s calling and be willing to do or go wherever He leads, no matter how crazy it may seem.
