DRY SEASONS
By: Pastor Matt Morgan
“The days are coming," declares the Sovereign LORD, "when I will send a famine through the land-- not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD.”
Amos 8:11 NIV
During the dry season in Ethiopia, there are irregular rains that cause vegetation to grow rapidly. This vegetation will spring up quickly with no nutritional value. This is called a “green drought.” In this drought, the beautiful, green fields are not consistent with what would happen naturally—the lush grass is just a mirage. Elephants have filled up on this green grass only to die of starvation with their bellies full.
In today’s world, we must search for the life-sustaining Word of God. If we are not careful, we could starve with our stomachs full of entertainment, programs, or marketing gimmicks that appear to be religious in nature, but neglect the truth of the gospel and the price for which it was paid. Jesus paid that price and to Him we are eternally grateful.
Let us keep our eyes on Christ. We must not be more concerned with modern relevance than God’s Word that redeems us. We must not be fixated on the elements of creativity and relativity while ignoring the living Christ who frees us. If so, we too will die with a full stomach.
