ENCOURAGEMENT
By: Pastor Brian Huff
Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.
Proverbs 12:25 NLT
The halls of your school are full of envy, bitterness, hate, and criticism; everyone trying to put themselves in a better social standing with their peers. It seems the easiest way to promote yourself is to destroy someone else. That’s the way the enemy makes us feel—the lower we feel, the lower we try to make others feel. The temptation to join in on the gossip and backbiting of someone else is almost impossible to avoid.
I love the quote by Dave Willis, “Be an encourager. The world has plenty of critics already.” I have determined to lift people up. The scripture said “an encouraging word cheers a person up”. I know you think that your encouraging word just lifts that person up, but I believe it lifts you up as well—it’s a two-fold blessing. It helps you destroy the “low” feeling in you when you help destroy the “low” feeling in another. It also sets you apart from the rest of the world.
I have never hated being around somebody who encourages me. Encourage someone TODAY!
